about

This album was recorded right after I flew back from a great Japanese tour, and my spirits were as high as they could be. Kid and Aki were new friends with boundless capabilities and were firing up my cylinders. June and Vance were old friends from the 90s-- their loose, authentic and driving rhythm was just what I needed to play at my very best. We cut this record with no rehearsals in five hours. They were all songs I'd been playing every night, so the rest of the guys just put their touch on it, which made it even better. The exception was the opener, which I jotted down on the back of an envelope the day before the session. And Empty Bed Blues was a lyric contribution from South Bend IN harp player (and sociology professor), who later wrote the lyrics to "Smoke and Mirrors" on my following CD "Neoprene Fedora". I can always count on Gene for some good lyrics in a pinch! This CD is a fan favorite. Currently sold out in physical form but watch this space for a reorder.
